Costume Review Night

Tonight was Costume Review Night at our house...kind of a "dress rehearsal" for Halloween Night. We started doing this a few years ago so we'd get to see all the grandchildren...and they'd still be able to Trick or Treat in their own neighborhoods. It also lets the other aunts and uncles see the little ones! Anyway...a great tradition.
This year, Carl was dressed as a wonderful Knight:
Sir Carl of the Round Table!Logan was Davy Crockett....
and in this photo is missing his "old school" powderhorn (as Uncle Erik called it!)
Gus was Captain Hook...the mighty pirate! AArrrrgggh!
And Louise was "Stinky" the Little Skunk!
Poppa and I made Krispy Treats this afternoon, in the shape of cracked bones....and we had ghosts on a stick!Natalie and Sammy weren't here tonight....but I photographed them when they were here for the Pumpkin Party on Monday.
Sammy was a Pirate Princess with groovy stockings.
And Natalie was a great looking Skeleton!! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays---and having Grandchildren makes it so much fun!!

3rd Annual Pumpkin Party

Last night was our 3rd Annual Pumpkin Party...the one Poppa and I have each year to carve pumpkins and act crazy with the grandkids! You have to be at least 2 years old to come, so it was Logan's first year. He was so excited when his mom and dad dropped him off at 4:30. "Pumpkin Party!! Pumpkin Party!!", he squealed as he ran into the house.

All the kids were dropped off and the parents had some time to themselves. We started with decorating bags, and heading out for the Scavenger Hunt.

Logan caught on right away running along with the kids and waving his list. They gathered a beautiful leaf, a stone, a pinecone, some trash, a stick....and got bonus points for something else very interesting.

Back home it was time to hunt for pumpkins, (the halloween bunny must hide them) and start carving them. There was some very busy scoopers and some intense drawing of face plans.

Natalie, at 9 was so independent this year! She made a "SpongeBob Pumpkin", complete with bubbles!!
Soon it was time for supper. The older kids remembered some of the fun menu items and were interested in dreaming up new ones. Logan wasn't quite sure what to think about some of the crazy food.
But after eating weiner worms, he soon discovered the chocolate pudding under the crushed oreo "dirt" and decided it was more than okay!!
Gus loved decorating Halloween cookies...and declared that his cookies were "Gorgeous!!" There was probably more corn candy than cookies at that point!
We had our scary face contest, lit the pumpkins, and soon it was time to get everyone ready to head home!! Another Pumpkin Party over...two tired grandparents!!
